Overview
Telecom and datacom equipment runs on a 48 volt rail and needs to derive the many low-voltage rails its boards require, often with isolation and in a dense space. Hawun supplies the wide-input isolated DC-DC converters that network equipment relies on, and BeiLuo supplies them as an authorized Hawun distributor with FAE support for board power design.
The 48 Volt Rail
Telecom systems distribute power at 48 volts to reduce the current and the losses in the wiring, and each board then converts that rail down to the voltages its circuits need. The 48 volt rail is not a clean nominal figure: it varies with the load and with the length of the feed, and it can present transients, so the converter must have a wide input range that covers the worst case with margin. A wide-input module such as the HW-DC-DIP-10W-24S12 handles that variation and keeps its output regulated, which is what the board's circuits need.
Isolation on the Board
Isolation separates the board's ground from the 48 volt rail, which breaks ground loops that would otherwise inject noise into sensitive circuits and protects the board from the transients of the rail. On a dense board, that separation is often the difference between a reliable link and an intermittent one, and it is a reason isolated converters are used so widely in network equipment.
Dense Board Power
Network boards are dense, so the converters must be compact and their layout must be careful. Keep the switching loop small, place the input capacitor close to the module, and keep the output away from the sensitive circuits. Where the residual noise is still too high for a particular rail, post-regulate it. On a dense board the layout decides the noise as much as the converter itself, so it deserves the same care as the electrical design.
Multiple Rails
A network board often needs several rails, and a family of converters with a standard pinout lets the designer derive them without redesigning the power stage each time. The isolation keeps each rail independent, so a fault on one rail does not disturb the others, which matters in equipment that must stay in service.
Monitoring
Network equipment benefits from measuring its own power, both to control it and to protect it. A current sensor such as the HW-RCS-AC-EV measures the load for monitoring and protection, and its accuracy and response time set how well the equipment protects itself. Pairing the power conversion with current sensing gives a complete picture of the board's power state.
Why BeiLuo
We hold mainstream Hawun converters and sensors in regional stock and ship them with import, origin and RoHS documentation. Our engineers support converter selection, EMC and thermal planning and layout review from concept through production, and we can supply samples for bench validation.
Validating the Board Power
Before production, measure the converter efficiency and ripple on the real board, and confirm the temperatures under sustained load. On a dense board these measurements decide whether the power stage meets its noise and thermal requirements, and they are cheaper to take before the board is committed.
Next Steps
Send your rail, load and density requirements and we will propose a converter set, confirm availability, and supply samples for validation.
